METRO TURKEY

'METRO’s global and local sustainability strategy and approach'

Our society is more exposed than ever to economic, environmental, social and cultural challenges. But as METRO, we are convinced that sustainability is the key to transforming these challenges into opportunities.

Our ambition METRO SUSTAINABLE is the framework for and driver of our actions towards customer sustainability. It means placing METRO at the core of transforming and driving responsible and sustainable business – at our own business but most importantly along our supply chain and with our customers.

By bringing our needs and ambitions in line with the needs of nature, people and future generations, we can provide METRO with long-term prospects for prosperity and overcome the conventional limits to growth for ourselves, our stakeholders and society as a whole.

In CEMS Marenostrum, we will come together to talk about METRO’s global and local sustainability strategy and approach. In this regard, we will discuss together;

  • conscious proteins & food waste,

  • plastics commitment & human rights,

  • principles of sustainability,

  • responsible purchasing,

  • perspective on responsible operations principles and practices,

  • perspective of METRO Turkey about responsible employer,

  • responsible corporate citizenship and customer responsibility principles and its practices.

'Sustainability Strategy: From Emissions to a Green Future'

The 2015 Paris agreement has been a pinnacle moment to create a unified global approach to fight climate change and limit global warming. 6 years later we are in the midst of a global crisis and reflect on the progress made so far and the steps ahead. The road towards climate neutrality is a challenging one that requires a clear ambition, strategy and execution model on a national, business and individual level. In this skills seminar, we will discuss the impact of CSR on business and governments, a public consulting credential to realize carbon neutrality by 2030 and the ambition of Unilever to put CSR at the heart of its strategy.

By completing this skill seminar, you will:

  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of the concepts and theories used in CSR

  • Effectively apply strategic thinking to operationalize strategies into a high-level roadmap

  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with an international group of classmates to design and produce case solutions

'Human Centered Design: Innovating for Sustainability'

Human Centered Design (HCD) is a design methodology where the core belief is that in order to design truly applicable solutions for people, designers must develop an empathetic understanding of their needs. Today, designers do this through contextual observations, user interviews, prototyping and user testing, and a range of other tools. An example of HCD is the PillPack which is a small box that organizes your medication into dose packets based on when they are to be taken. Simple, but centered on the needs of humans by studying their struggles closely.

When you take a step back, however, you realize that despite all of these innovations, we have barely made any impact on the real global problems that our planet is increasingly facing.

Design thinking helps us look at the world’s problems and uncover some of the issues that need to come to light. The design process helps us to focus on solving problems and finding opportunities. We not only have to think about the direct or indirect impact our work has on us humans, but also about the impact it has on the world these products are being used in and the overall systems we humans are part of.

As global leaders of tomorrow, we will learn about the evolution of design thinking to human-centered and then to life-centered design approach and how we can use this to help us solve the world’s problems. Rather than focusing on design that addresses consumer needs in a set economic environment, the aim of this skill seminar is to use human-centered design thinking to stimulate ideas that focus on innovation in terms of both usability and its ecological, socio-economical, and happiness costs.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the three phases of HCD: Inspiration, Ideation, and Implementation and recognize the latest and future issues and challenges in innovation

  • Enhance participants readiness, awareness, and skills of the HCD process to take on roles as leaders and change agents by applying HCD concepts to real-life problems that the world is facing

  • Deepen participants' understanding of ongoing global and social issues and prepare the mindset and discipline of systematic inspiration to solve them

  • To propose concrete, feasible, and viable innovative solutions to current environmental/social discrepancies faced around the world
